“Resurrected” Atta Mills Returns Home
Thursday, February 15th, 2008
- Triumphant Entry As Thousands Throng Airport.
- House-To-House Continues Unabated
“I Am A Life Threatening Disease To The NPP” He Declares.
Professor John Evans Atta Mills, returned home from South Africa, after taking time off a near-year long hectic political schedule.
Professor Mills, who was away for three weeks, arrived from South Africa via Cote d’Ivoire, at 16.08 hrs GMT aboard an Antrak aircraft.
His absence from town, gave room to Freddie Blay and Gina Blay, their sidekick, Fortune Alimi, and their Daily Guide paper, to fabricate stories about his health, arrived home to a thunderous and deafening welcome from thousands of party faithful who thronged the Kotoka International Airport hours before his arrival.
John Evans Atta Mills, who was met at the airport on arrival by the national leadership of the party he leads, leadership of the NDC caucus in parliament, family members and close associates, disembarked from the plane in a very cheerful mood waving a white handkerchief.
Upon his arrival, Christian, Muslim and traditional prayers were said, to thank the supreme being for the safe arrival of the NDC Leader, to ask for strength for him to be able to lead the NDC to victory, and for his enemies and those who wish him dead not to have their way. Professor Atta Mills, after the prayers and exchange of pleasantries, addressed his teeming supporters and thanked them for turning up in their numbers to show their love and to repose confidence in him.
“I am very touched by what you have done and what I am seeing and I want to thank you. I am back, well and fit for the task ahead and I promise you that I will lead you to victory so that together we can give to mother Ghana what she deserves” the NDC Leader said. “Just as I told you at our congress, I want to tell you again that, God has not finished with me yet” he added to shouts of, Amen. Prof. Mills assured his people of a clean bill of health and said that if it is the case that he was carrying any disease, then it is not a disease that will kill him, but rather a disease that will kill the NPP.
....and Accra stood still for Prof. Mills
From the airport, the sea of human beings that went to meet Prof Mills at the Kotoka Airport, enthusiastically joined in a very long convoy that drove him through the Opeibia/37 highway, through Kawokudi junction, through the Nima highway, the Ring Road, to the NDC’s headquarters close to Paloma Restaurant at Kokomlemle.
And along the stretch from the 5 p.m rush hour, traffic jammed with lots of cars tooting their horns and people getting out of their cars to catch a glimpse of the 'resurrected' Atta Mills, who enjoyed the cheers from his open-top vehicle. The support from the people, was nothing but massive.
Also, lots of people lined up the streets to wave and wish Professor Mills well and it was reminiscent of the immediate post independence days when the great Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, used to receive cheers from Ghanaians for freeing them from the shackles of colonial rule.
At the party headquarters, the leadership of the party welcomed their leader back home and pledged their unalloyed support for him.
The supporters and well-wishers who thronged the airport, came from the Upper East, Upper West, Northern, Brong Ahafo, Ashante, Eastern, Western, Central, Volta and Greater Accra regions of the country.
Professor Mills declared a full-scale political war on the NPP as he announced the resumption of every high profile political activity saying that he will continue to embark on his house-to-house campaign which to all intents and purposes, has put him in pole position to win massively, the mandate of the electorate to become the next Leader of Kwame Nkrumah’s Ghana.
“True power lies with ordinary Ghanaians and because I respect that fact, there is no way I will stop going to them in all humility to ask them to give Atta Mills their mandate so that together we can build a better Ghana” he said.
Indeed, with John Agyekum Kufuor being caught by the I Care For You message of Professor Mills, via his confessions during his address to parliament, nothing is going to stop the NDC Leader from continuing in the direction of getting into the nooks and crannies to tell the people that his government will care for them.
It would be recalled that in the immediate aftermath of Prof Atta Mills leaving for South Africa, after he had made it public that he was taking a break from high profile political activity, speculations were rife about his supposed health problems with the Daily Guide hitting its head against a speculative wall and putting out the NDC Leader fell into a coma and was rushed to South Africa.
The Daily Guide story was followed by a more spurious story that appeared on the internet and propagated in sections of the Ghanaian media, which had it that the learned professor had died in South Africa after undergoing a surgery in a Johannesburg hospital.
Of course, Professor Mills spoke on a number of occasions from South Africa and made virtual nonsense of the attempt by his detractors to bury him alive.
