Tema welcomes Prof. Mills

Prof Mills

Prof. Atta Mills visited the Port City of Tema and its environs with his innovative retail style politics last Thursday, where he was met on arrival by scores of supporters as he entered the township via the motorway.

The near five hour visit saw the learned professor paying a visit to the Manhean Palace of the Tema Mantse, Nii Adjei Kraku II.

At the palace, which could have been mistaken for and NDC rally ground because of the numbers as well as the NDC paraphernalia that inundated the place, Professor Atta Mills thanked the Tema Mantse for making time to meet with him and his entourage. Pledging to focus on a clean campaign based on how to care for Ghanaians when given the mandate, the NDC Leader promised to revive the local fishing industry since it was the source of livelihood for lots of folk in the Manhean community.

Professor Mills reminded the chief and his elders that the NDC government, recognizing the need for the local fishing industry to be propped up, introduced the premix fuel into the system and also made outboard motors and other fishing accessories available at subsidized prices which went a long way to boost the fishing industry. Touching on the fishing industry which is dying because of the inhuman policies of the NPP government, Professor Mills expressed deep concern about the fraud and thievery that has dogged the distribution of premix as well as the way it is only a small NPP cabal that is benefiting from the premix fuel.

Professor Mills promised that a Mills led government will cut out the corruption in the distribution of premix fuel and make sure that it is once again accessible to all. The NDC Leader also touched on the way Ghana’s territorial waters has been invaded by all kinds of vessels which bully the local fishermen at sea and even destroy their boats and nets and said that his government will put in place the needed legislation which will protect local fishermen. “We need to protect and grow our local fishing industry so that our fisherfolk can continue to sustain themselves and their families and that is what the NDC government will do” he said.

“It is part of my agenda to revive the local fishing industry because I have been to lots of fishing communities and I know the way people are suffering because of the current policies” the NDC Leader added. Nii Adjei Kraku II, on his part, thanked Professor Mills for visiting his palace and asked the good professor to continue to reach out to the people with his retail campaigning and his I Care For You message and that if he continues the way he has started, there is no way it will not inure to his benefit.

The Tema Mantse asked Professor Mills and his people to make sure that when they are given the mandate, they do not disappoint the people. “I know you and know that you are an honest man and so please make sure you don’t let the people down after they trust your honesty and give you the mandate to better their lot” Nii Adjei Kraku II said. Traditional prayers were said by the Wulomor and his priests and priestesses for Professor Mills Professor Mills also interacted with fisherfolk and market women around the main harbour , as well taxi and tro-tro drivers at Community Two.

Professor Mills promised to reduce the taxes on petroleum products to make them more affordable. “The price of petroleum products affect every facet of the economy and I will make sure I reduce the taxes on petroleum products so that life becomes more bearable for us all” Professor Mills said. “When I say I care for you, I mean it and I will demonstrate through my human centered policies that I truly care for you. The suffering is too much and I will make sure I introduce policies that will not uncaringly take money out of your pockets” Professor Mills added. Professor also paid a visit to Meridian FM, in the Manhean area, where he toured the office complex which was recently gutted by fire. Professor Atta Mills made a token donation of a computer to the CEO, Diana Herman Adu, and said that his government will make it a point to support all media houses, especially the weak ones, as way of deepening the country’s democracy. The CEO of Meridian FM thanked Professor Mills for his gesture and said that she was deeply touched by the visit because Professor Mills is the only Presidential Candidate who has shown concern to her station. Professor Mills also visited a mosque at site 20, where Moslem prayers were said for him and for Allah to give him strength and wisdom to be able to execute his agenda. Professor Atta Mills was accompanied by Hon. Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo , Hon E.T. Nii Kraku calls for honest leadership

"The youth of this country are tired of the extreme partisanship of our politics. I think that whichever government wins, must, as soon as it wins, … as soon as the competition is over we must create an environment where we are able to harness all the human resource of Ghana notwithstanding political affiliation in order to move this country forward".
