Mills addresses displaced traders.
Professor John Evans Atta Mills addressed traders displaced by the decongestion exercise and the recent fire outbreak at the Makola Market in Accra.
He appealed to the electorate to vote for him and the NDC in the upcoming elections to enable him share the "national cake" with all Ghanaians. Speaking at the site of the fire, he expressed his profound sympathy to those who lost property in the fire outbreak and assured the traders that he would create an environment that would enable them do businesses to earn a decent living to help take care of themselves and their families without fear.
The NDC Flagbearer called on the teaming crowd to compare their socio-economic positions in 2000 when the NPP assumed office to their current one in 2007 to judge for themselves if they were better or not, adding that it will help inform them better in voting for a better candidate in December 2008.
Prof. Atta Mills assured them that when elected in office, he would ensure an equitable distribution of resources to all without discrimination, a situation he says will be different from the selective "property owning" ideology of the ruling government that kept the wealth of the nation in the hands of a few. Professor Mills addressed mini-rallies within the Odododiodio constituency and the Central Business district of the capital. He was accompanied by the NDC National Women's Organiser - Mrs Ama Benyiwa Doe, the MP for the Area - Mr Jonathan Nii Tackie Komme and the Constituency Chairman - Mr Daniel Nii Okai.
When she took her turn, Mrs Benyiwa Doe explained to the victims of the fire outbreak that Prof Mills could not visit them earlier since he was in the middle of a campaign in the Central Region when the unfortunate incident happened. She dispelled rumours in the media that the NDC Presidential Candidate was not in good health and asked them to judge for themselves. Adding that if the Flagbearer was dying as has been speculated in the media, he could not have been walking through most of his door-to-door campaigns. Mrs Benyiwa Doe described the Professor Mills as a "God fearing and peace loving" person who, when given the chance could turn around the fortunes of the people.
Mr Jonathan Nii Tackie Komme, MP for Odododiodio, mentioned to the traders that Prof Mills was humble and had a lot of compassion for people and had come to see the extent of demolition of stores and stalls in the city by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly which is being done under the guise of beautifying and decongesting Accra.
Mr Daniel Nii Okai, the Constituency Chairman, called on the people to stand solidly behind the party to retain the Odododiodio seat and also Prof Atta Mills to win the elections in December 2008. He thanked them for their continuous support for the NDC and charged them to double their efforts to win more support for the party to guarantee victory at the polls next year.
