J. E. Atta Mills recieves keys to Worcester

.....becomes an Honorary Citizen Of Worcester.

On Saturday August 18, at a very colorful ceremony at the Auditorium of Clark University in the City of Worcester, Massachusetts, John Evans Atta Mills, the NDC’s Presidential Candidate for the 2008 general elections, was made an Honorary Citizen of Worcester. Prof. Mills was at Worcestor as a guest of the Ghanaian community in general, and the Massachusetts Chapter of the NDC in particular.

Presenting the Key of the City to the NDC Presidential Candidate, Mayor Konstantina Lukes said the City of Worcester was honored to play host to an august visitor in the person of Dr. Atta Mills. She said “I have read a lot about you, and your people here have a very high regard and respect for you ......”

In jest, the Mayor said the Key opens all doors in the city except that of the treasury. In response, Prof. Atta Mills thanked her for the honor done him and Ghana, as he shared the honour with Ghanaians, especially those in Massachussets.

Lt Governor Timothy Murray, the first blackperson to ascend the throne in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts was represented by his Liaison Officer, Ron Bell.

The program also attracted members of the NPP in Worcestor whose Chairman Mr. Tony Adade asked Prof. Mills what his vision for the country was during the interactive session that followed. Responding, the learned professor and legal luminary said that his main vision is for Ghana to once again be the united country that Kwame Nkrumah wanted it to be.

“The hatred, division and polarization is not going to help us and Atta Mills as president would make sure that all Ghanaians are brought on board to shape the destiny of the country” he said. “The unnecessary politicization of every little matter would not help our motherland and if we don’t put a stop to it, one of these days we would wake up to realize that even kenkey would be labeled NDC or NPP and when we get to that stage, Ghana would be tinkering with civil strife and it would mean that we would not have anything to call our country” the NDC Presidential Candidate added.

Earlier, the NDC Presidential Candidate was in the studios of WCCA TV in Worcestor, where he was interviewed for about an hour with Hostess Mavis Akoto (formerly of Joy FM), who asked questions on the economy, health, education, national security, job creation, the drug menace, the contract-killings and other related national issues. On the issue of whether the he will spend his time harassing his political opponents if elected , the Flagbearers’ response was an emphatic no. He said harassing political opponents is not going to be in his manifesto and since he would be voted into office based on his manifesto, there is no way he would deviate from it.

He retorted, “When the people give you the mandate to rule for 4 years, it is such a short time that it would not make sense wasting it on trivialities. By all means, the laws of the land will be made to work and those who have to answer questions would do so but it would not take Atta Mils and his government to decide who the laws must deal with and who the laws must not deal with. There would be justice for all and no group would be above the law.”

According to Koku Anyidoho, the Director of Communications for the Atta Mills Campaign, Atta Mills had taken some time to visit some Ghanaian business owners in Worcester where he assured people that an Atta Mills Presidency would usher in a New Ghana which would bring hope to Ghanaians and restore to the country its lost pride and glory.

Among those present at Worcester to give support to the NDC Presidential Candidate were, Alhaji Hudu Yahaya, NDC Vice Chairman, Professor Kwaku Danso Boafo, a former Health Minister, Dr. Cadman Atta Mills, formerly of the World Bank, Dr. and Mrs. J.S Annan of the UN, New York Attorney, William Antwi, among others from Montreal, New York, New Jersey, Atlanta, Maryland, and Delaware. The executives of the newly formed NDC Canada led by their Chairman, Mr. Kofi Sordzi were also present to confer with the Presidential Candidate.
